 Steve
Pinney’s reputable career as a civil engineer has evolved
primarily from industrial and marine protective coatings. Today,
his expertise of specification preparations and testing programs
is highly acclaimed in the industry. As the former owner and
CEO of an international corporation, his company provided clients—both
industrial and marine—with services in field coating application
services. He has also served as an instructor for the prestigious
organizations: SSPC (the Society for Protective
Coatings) and
NACE International (National Association
of Corrosion Engineers International). Inspection procedures, protective coating formulation
and selection, specification preparation, coating program management
and lead paint abatement—were among the topics that Steve
taught.
In 1977, Steve Pinney founded the S.
G. Pinney and Associates, Inc. An engineering firm, the company
provided specification preparation and review, training, inspection—both above
and below water—and laboratory services, solely in the
field of protective coatings. Eventually this company was sold
in 1997 and Steve remained as the CEO until 1999. At that time,
he formed the Stephen G. Pinney, PE, Inc., which provides independent
consulting services to users of industrial and marine protective
coatings. Today, services provided include:

with any coating applicator, manufacturer or consulting firm. Because
of this, Steve is capable of providing unbiased opinions for his
clients. He is a registered professional engineer in several states.
With various certifications from both SSPC and NACE, he has regularly
chaired and participated in their technical meetings. He has been
the Chairman of ASTM Committee D-33 for
the Coatings for the Power Generation Industry and Chairman of the Education & Certification
